“Our student demand significantly exceeds the money we get from the state. This is the first time we’ve been in that situation.”
As a result she says Sac State will have to turn away about 2,500 students. To accomplish this, the university will require a higher grade point average for students applying from outside the six-county Sacramento area. Local students won’t face that higher GPA requirement. But they can’t slack off.
“Because the chances that they will be given permission to get back into school after performing poorly are significantly diminished.”
Sacramento State is bracing for state funding cuts that could reduce next year’s budget by about $4 million.
