State of the State Preview

Governor Schwarzenegger says he’s not quite ready to face the fact that his time in the top job is winding down:

“I do not acknowledge the fact that it is my last state of the state, or that it is my last year, so just let me live in denial."

The speech will be a blueprint of sorts of the Governor’s hopes for that last year in office. He hasn’t given specifics on the speech itself, but says he’s interested in setting up a bigger rainy day fund for California, reforming the state’s tax system and passing a water bond and an open primary measure. But the star of the speech – and the year - will once again be the state’s massive budget problems.  The Address is early again this year – at 10 a.m., but the Governor countered speculation that he was trying to bury the bad news, saying that the timing allowed him to get more coverage.
