The city of Lincoln was the nation’s fourth fastest-growing city during the past decade, with almost 22,000 households — or more than three times the figure in 2000. The city, which boasts a historic downtown and several large retirement communities, also had the highest average household net worth among the nine cities listed, at $594,000.
Braselton, Ga., was the nation’s fastest-growing city, followed by Atascocita, Texas, and Spring Hill, Tenn. Texas dominated the list, with two Dallas and two Houston suburbs making the grade. And that makes sense since the Lone Star State was the fastest-growing state in 2008, followed by California.
The Gadberry Group looked at more than 17,000 communities for the closely watched fastest-growing cities list. Five years ago, Elk Grove was listed as the nation’s fastest-growing city, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
