Elk Grove Expands Open Enrollment

That’s the largest number of open enrollment schools in the district’s history.

Director of secondary education Sara Noguchi says it’s a sign of how much student enrollment has plummeted.

“We’re declining everywhere. So, it’s the state of California. Where are the kids moving to? Not sure, they’re not moving anywhere in this region, in any of our neighboring districts. The enrollment has decreased substantially in San Juan, it’s decreased in Sac City and again in Elk Grove – these are the largest ones.”

Any student who lives within the district’s boundaries is eligible for open enrollment. Parents can apply on the district’s website.

District officials will still be able to limit the number of students transferring into or out of any schools. And parents of students granted an open enrollment transfer are responsible for providing transportation for the student…to and from school.
