They’re also bringing along thousands of pounds of equipment and supplies. Captain Jim Doucette is with the Sacramento Fire Department. He says team member are hopeful they’ll be able to save lives.
“You know, there’s still a good chance that there’s a lot of people that are trapped that are still alive. And that’s going to be their primary function."
Doucette says most of the task force is made up of local firefighters.
“But there is, from my understanding, there’s maybe a doctor or two on the team and I haven’t got all that information yet, and some nurses. There may even be some construction type engineer type people.”
Doucette says the team could be in Haiti for several weeks. Search-and-rescue teams from Southern California have also been deployed to Haiti.

Local Search And Rescue Team Headed To Haiti

Federal officials have deployed Sacramento’s Urban Search and Rescue Team to earthquake-stricken Haiti. The 72-member task force rushed to Travis Air Force Base early Thursday morning.
