Afternoon Storm Update: Worst is Over for the Valley, But not the Sierra

Powerful rain and winds knocked out power to tens of thousands of homes and businesses in the four-county Sacramento region this morning. And late Wednesday afternoon, more than 13,000 customers remained without electricity.

SMUD and PG&E officials say they hope to get as many lights back on as possible by later tonight. But because so many outages are scattered throughout the region, officials say it will likely be tomorrow or Friday before everyone’s power is back.
