Holly Britton usually lives in the foothills town of Sonora...just east of Stockton. But she and her family are staying with friends in Santiago for a few months. The city is about 300 miles north of the epicenter of Saturday’s massive quake.
On Capital Public Radio’s Insight today, Britton said the quake lasted about 90-seconds…although it seemed longer.
“The strength of the earthquake was much stronger than anything I’ve ever felt in California. But what made the real impression on me was the length. It just felt like an eternity. And of course there was glass crashing and the roof coming off. So the noise was tremendous.”
Britton, along with her husband, and their four children are all fine. Although she says the home they’re staying in sustained some roof damage.
