And they’re urging the legislature to protect state parks from additional cuts that could include closures.
Elizabeth Goldstein is with the California State Parks Foundation. She says state parks are a big part of California’s identity. One example: Sutter’s Fort.
Goldstein:  “Which practically every school child in Sacramento area knows because they go there to learn important parts of the story of California’s history.”
Goldstein says so far, around a third of the 280 state parks are dealing with deep service reductions … like bathroom closures and limited lifeguard service.
Goldstein says advocates are hoping for long-term funding of California’s park system.
Today’s rally is part of the eighth annual Park Advocacy Day.
