Mattos died on Sunday after battling brain cancer. He was 68-years-old.
Mattos started his association with Sacramento State more than 45-years-ago as a football player for the Hornets. He went on to coach the team from 1978 to 1992…and has the most wins of any coach in the history of the university’s football program. He also held coaching stints at Elk Grove High School, Stagg High School in Stockton and Jesuit High School in Carmichael.
Mattos’ funeral will be Friday morning at Saint Joachim Church in the Stanislaus County town of Newman.
