Davis May Consolidate Services

One idea is to consolidate various agencies that do the same kind of work.
Mayor Pro Tem Don Saylor likes that idea:
“Road maintenance is done by all four cities in Yolo County and the county and the university. We each have crews and supervisors and equipment. Why can’t we pool those resources? And there may be many, many other areas that we can focus on increased collaboration.”
Other ideas for closing the budget gap include laying off employees, eliminating vacant positions and shutting down the Parks and General Services Department.
City leaders blame the deficit on a drop in sales tax revenues triggered by the ongoing economic recession.
