Daniel Sperling is the director of the Institute of Transportation Studies at UC Davis. He says programs such as the Energy Efficiency Center or the Cooling Efficiency Center are great examples for the school’s efforts.

Sperling: “So these are very strong programs, but they’re relatively new, that we’re expanding.  And so we’re on a very steep trajectory.  So this is a very important year for us.”

The school is researching clean cars, green wineries, and energy-efficient air conditioning and streetlights.

Sperling says investing in green energy will create jobs to improve the economy in Northern California and the Sacramento region.
