Braziel:
“You know, I’m very honored. And I’m just thankful they saw the potential in me, and we’ll see how the process works out.”

But Braziel says he loves his job in Sacramento and would be happy to stay if Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn picks someone else.

Braziel has been Sacramento’s top cop for nearly two-and-a-half years. He’s a 30-year veteran of the police department. He says he’s the right fit for Seattle because its department is moving in the same direction as Sacramento’s.

Braziel: “We’re a department that is very good at community policing, and that’s my passion and that's what they’re looking up there in Seattle for.  And they’re starting to go through budget cuts, something that we’ve bene able to do very successfully here in maintaining a level of service, continuing to drop crime at the same time that we’re reducing our budget.”

Seattle’s mayor must recommend one of the three finalists to the city council for approval. A decision is expected by mid-June.
