Casey Robbins is a 16-year-old girl who has been collecting and shipping old, donated textbooks for schools in Liberia. And the Liberian government wants to pay tribute to her.
Christiana Bendu Hunter heads the Association of Citizens and Friends of Liberia which is based in Sacramento. She says most Liberian children didn’t attend school during the country’s long civil war which ended in 2003.

“…and education was not even an issue. So when Casey started the project, it has helped a lot. Because it’s like 14 years not in school and now you have a textbook.”
Robbins says she was inspired to start her Textbooks for Liberia program after hearing a radio interview with a Liberian government official.
“I thought it was just going to be my Bat Mitzvah project. But it kept going and I really liked doing it. So I decided to keep sending shipments.”
