Business Journal: Sacramento Economy's Struggles Continue

Fewer companies posted online help-wanted ads last month in the Sacramento region, as the economy continues to hurt job-seekers.  The Conference Board said online help-wanted ads dipped about four percent to 26,000 jobs last month in the region.  Despite the one-month decline, the four-county region’s job-postings are up 12 percent for the first five months of the year, compared to the same period last year.  But there are far too few jobs for those looking for work — about six job-seekers for every open position in Sacramento, and that’s one of the highest rates in the nation.

And in another report, the figure is more sobering — the region has lost almost 25,000 jobs during the past year. That’s a four percent drop compared to April 2009.  But the region has plenty of company, 97 of the nation’s 100-largest metropolitan areas lost jobs over the past year.
