The Department will be working to restore checks for 400-thousand Californians. Those are the people who saw a disruption in their unemployment benefits over the last month and a half.
This week, President Obama signed into law a bill that restores those benefits, after weeks of congressional debate.
Loree Levy is with E-D-D. She says they’re working to get checks out as soon as next week.
“Trying to process claims for 400,000 people on top of our very heavy daily workload is a big challenge, and it stretches our systems but we’re doing everything we can to catch up quickly because we know these benefits are very critical to people.”
She says things should run smoothly since this isn’t a new program, just an extension of existing benefits.
Checks are already being processed for people who have continued to file for unemployment, and E-D-D will get in touch with anyone who’s stopped filing.
