Insight: Islam Education / Burmese Activist / Yiyun Li / "Thirty-Minute Pasta"

Islam Education Ramadan is coming to an end, and the three day Eid celebrations will be falling on Sept. 11th this year since Muslims follow the lunar calendar. Given recent national incidences against mosques, local community leaders are doing what they can to promote education and understanding towards Muslims and explain why the holiday happens this weekend. We'll talk with Basim Elkara, Executive Director of the Sacramento Chapter of CAIR, and Imam Abdul-Azeez about it.

Burmese Activist Amnesty International Group in Sacramento is presenting two showings of "Burma VJ", an award-winning film about the human rights movement in Burma.  A Burmese human rights activist, now living in exile in San Francisco, will be the guest speaker before the film. We'll talk with Aung Kyaw Soe.

Author Yiyun Li The New Yorker magazine says UC Davis professor Yiyun Li is one of America's top young novelists and she won numerous awards for her first story collection, "A Thousand Years of Good Prayers." We'll talk with her about her new book "Gold Boy, Emerald Girl."

"Thirty-Minute Pasta" Giuliano Hazan, a renowned chef and author, has a new book out. You'll meet the son of famed Italian cookbook writer Marcella Hazan and hear about his book "Thirty Minute Pasta." This segment originally aired March 29th.
