According to new data released by UC, applications are up six
percent from a year ago. Much of the growth comes from
students outside California. International applications are
up nearly 23 percent and out-of-state applications are up nearly
eleven percent. UC officials say they're actively recruiting
those students because they pay out-of-state fees, which helps the
schools cope with state budget cuts. There was also a big
increase in freshman Latino applicants - 18 percent over last
year. UC officials say despite the increased demand and the
uncertain budget situation, they will still accept all eligible
California applicants….but they may not get the campus of their
choice.
