Surinder Sing was 65-years old. He was shot to death last Friday while taking an afternoon walk in his Elk Grove neighborhood.
Navi Kaur s Singh's granddaughter. She says her grandfather was a peaceful man.
"We urge the public to come forward with any information that will help us bring the criminals to justice. They are cowards for shooting a man out on his daily walk."
Singh was walking with his friend, 78-year-old Gurmej Atwal. He's in the hospital in critical condition.
Elk Grove Police say there's no evidence the shootings were a hate crime. But lack of a motive and the fact that the two men were wearing turbans raises that possibility.
Meanwhile, Police Captain Brian Noblett says he's happy to see the reward money that the Sikh community has collected for tips in the case has grown from $5,000 to nearly $30,000 in a matter of days.
"I'm very hopeful that that's going to generate additional tips."
One tip police are working on is that witnesses described seeing a tan or light brown Ford pickup in the area of the shooting.
Capital Public Radio will take a closer look at the Sikh shooting on Insight, Tuesday at 10 AM.
