Reverend Motoe Yamada with the Sacramento Japanese Methodist Church on Franklin Boulevard says the volunteers would not only help with clean-up work…but they'd also provide emotional support to disaster victims.
"I really believe we will be the sign of hope - that we are here to care for you and help you to rebuild your life."
Yamada says several members of her congregation have family in Sendai. She says her own relatives are in Tokyo.
"All of them are fine and I was very relieved but at the same time I know some of my church members, they are still trying to get in touch with their family members."
Yamada says the team of volunteers will be going to Japan whenever Japanese officials send for them…which will probably be in April or May.
