The total number of jobs located in the region grew by 1,400 last month. That's fewer than the 3,300 job gains the area typically sees in good times.
But Alex Alvarado, an analyst with the state Employment Development Department, says it's still a lot better than the two previous Februaries.
"We actually saw only a small gain last year of about 500 jobs and the year before that we lost thousands of jobs. So this is definitively improved from the last couple of years."
According to the latest EDD figures, the Sacramento area added 400 leisure and hospitality jobs last month….as well as 1,500 positions in professional and business services.
But those gains were offset by a loss of 18-hundred retail jobs.
