Sacramento political and business leaders mounted a last ditch
campaign to prevent the team's move to Anaheim. But Sacramento
Mayor Kevin Johnson says the fans get a lot of credit
"The Here We Stay, the Here We Build, the Game Over.
There was a coalition of people in our community that really
stepped up behind the scenes. They wouldn't let us
quit. They wouldn't let us give up."
Johnson says it was the constant tweeting, blogging, facebook
posting and billboards that convinced the National Basketball
Association and the Maloofs the team should stay in
Blake Ellington is the creator of the fan group Here We
Stay. He says the next step is rallying support around a new
sports and entertainment complex.
"We're gonna get back to the drawing board and get
everybody that's been involved in Here We Stay all the fans,
everybody that's motivated with social media, we're hoping to get
them going again."
Sacramento now has a little less than a year to prove to the
NBA and the Maloofs that the city is making critical progress
towards a new arena for the Kings.
