Insight: Water Emergency / First 5 Cuts / California Tourism / Josh Fernandez

Placer County water emergency A ruptured canal in the foothills has disrupted the Placer County Water Agency's water supply; a water emergency will be officially declared this week until PG&E fixes the canal sometime next month.
First 5 Sacramento The commission had to cut $48.5 million in programs for kids last week. The cuts were unavoidable because the state recently took $1 billion in reserve funds from First 5 commissions across California to help balance the state budget. First 5 Sacramento responded mostly by reducing appropriations by a quarter to one-half for a range of programs over the next five years. The biggest cut, $17 million, was made to a project that will provide water fluoridation to parts of the county.
California Tourism  Can tourism save California's struggling economy? There's new data out that suggests it can and with Prince William and Kate planning a visit in July, things could start looking up. Caroline Beteta serves as the President and Chief Executive Officer of the industry-led California Travel and Tourism Commission(CTTC), a nonprofit organization created to market California as a premier travel destination and to increase the State's share of tourism-related revenues.
Josh Fernandez Local writer and journalist Josh Fernandez will talk about his recently released book, a collection of poems titled  "Spare Parts and Dismemberment. Josh Fernandez was born in Denver, raised in Boston and Metro-California, and now lives and works in Midtown Sacramento. He writes for Spin, Boulder Weekly, San Antonio Current and the Sacramento News & Review. His poetry is widely published and he continues to be a sought-after reader and speaker - often asked to talk about ethnic diversity, abuse and addiction, and his background as a writer and poet.
