The money is part of a $2 billion award going to rail projects throughout the country…money that was originally awarded to Florida but rescinded after the governor canceled rail plans there.
U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood made the announcement today.
"These investments we're making today will help states across the country create jobs, spur economic development and revitalize America's manufacturing sector."
California will get $ 300 million to build the first high-speed rail route from Bakersfield to Merced. California will also get nearly $70 million to buy 15 high-performance passenger rail cars and four quick-acceleration locomotives.
