Tour of California Winter weather in Tahoe
canceled Stage 1 of the Tour of California yesterday and forced the
move of today's start from Squaw Valley to Nevada City. Today on
Insight, we'll get an update on everything that's happening from
James Raia. Plus, you'll meet a local cancer survivor who plans to
walk a mile of the Tour of California today. Prakashni Shandil was
diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in 2008 and a blood and
marrow transplant was her best course of treatment. She received a
transplant from her brother Anil, but had to first wait for him to
return home from his post as a National Guardsman in Iraq. One of
Shandil nurses from Sutter Medical Center, Linda Lambert, played a
big role in her recovery and will be joining Shandil in today's
walk.
Insurance Commissioner We'll talk with Dave
Jones, California's Insurance Commissioner about what he can and
can't do about health-care premiums.
Eye Surgeon A Sacramento eye surgeon just
returned from Vietnam where he did pro-bono surgery for people
there. We'll talk with Dr. Mark Drabkin about why he travels to
developing countries to remove cataracts for free.
Physics and Art UC Davis research physicist
Richard Breedon and artist Marianne Ryan will give a joint
presentation today at the Commonwealth Club of San Francisco. Ryan
will talk about her paintings inspired by visits to the Large
Hadron Collider at CERN, Switzerland. Breedon will follow up with a
presentation about the experiments being undertaken at the LHC and
what physicists are trying to achieve there. We'll talk with both
of them.
