One kiosk will be 28th and J Street, the other at 16th and I. You'll need a credit card to rent a bike, and you have to return it to the same kiosk you rented from.
The rental's free if you return it within a half hour. Each subsequent half hour is $2.
Rob Kerth is the Executive Director of the Midtown Business Association. He and other designers of the program looked at Washington D.C's successful bike sharing program and decided to just go for it.
"Normally to launch a project like this you'd pull together some focus groups and do some surveys and do some route planning and traffic studies and all those sorts of things. And we just said 'oh let's not bother with all of that.'"
Kerth says the Midtown Business Association will determine
whether to add more kiosks and bikes at the end of the six month
trial period, or scrap the program altogether.
