Thirteen college students are working as part of Mayor Kevin Johnson's "Summer Interns and Fellows program."  Tarren (TEHR un) Corbett is a UC Davis graduate student working on the mayor's "Third Grade Reading Campaign.

"What we're trying to do is mobilize the community.  So, we're really targeting three key areas: school readiness, school attendance, and summer learning loss.  We're figuring out to get every type of constituent in the community involved: going to schools, making phone calls, doing everything we can so that we can get all of Sacramento making third grade reading a prioritybecause it's so important for children.

The college students are also working for the Mayor on his "Green Initiative" program, on "Safeground" for the homeless, and on the Entertainment and Sports Complex project.  The intern and fellows program is part of a joint effort with the Harvard Business School.
