Gene Gibson with HUD says the money will help as many as 25 local veterans who are struggling with things like drug abuse and post traumatic stress disorder. She says they need a stable base from which to rebuild a life.
GIBSON: "The ideal goal is that the veteran, once they've got their life together, and are employable, get a job and will move on."
Nationwide, more than $46 million are marked for public housing agencies. Ten-and-a-half million dollars are going to California cities and counties. The money funds an Obama Administration plan to end veteran homelessness by 2015.
