California Governor Jerry Brown says he's pleased the feds have followed California's lead.

BROWN: "This marks a complete reversal from what we were facing just a few years ago when California was engaged in multiple lawsuits in different states with the major automobile companies."

California Air Resources Board Chair, Mary Nichols praised the automakers.

NICHOLS: "To set goals that are really far in advance of anything they ever have previously been willing to admit that they could do and actually brag about what their going to be able to do and compete over new technologies is a major step forward."

Cars will have to average 62 miles per gallon in 2025.  Trucks must average 44 miles per gallon.
