Insight: Capitol Mall Design Competition / Solar Power Red Tape / CalSTRS on Pension Reform / Sound Advice: Classical

Solar Power Red Tape Is there too much state regulation and red tape when it comes to solar energy? A study by SunRun -a company that owns, installs, insures and maintains solar panels for homeowners- says the state is costing people thousands of jobs and slowing down this growing business. We'll talk with Erik deKok, Senior Planner with the Community Development Department, and Ethan Sprague, who develops policies and programs to grow the solar industry at local and state levels.

CalSTRS on Pension Reform The California Foundation for Fiscal Responsibility proposed two options this summer for reforming public-school teacher's pensions.  Now, the organization that controls teacher's pensions (CalSTRS), has weighed in on the proposals. Today we'll speak with CalSTRS' Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Plan Design and Communication, Ed Derman, who helped analyze the proposed changes to CalSTRS' pension system.

Capitol Mall Design Competition A competition will kick off this month to redesign the Capitol Mall. We'll talk to Chris Barkley, who is organizing the competition for the city, and Bill Crouch, an architect in the competition.
