Big Crowds At Job Fair

Aaron Burton lost his job at a Target warehouse earlier this year. The 20-year-old says finding something else hasn't been easy.

"It's been hard out there - not a lot of jobs around this community."

The Urban League has been holding this annual Diversity Job Fair for the past 13 years. President and CEO David DeLuz says Sacramento area minorities have been particularly hurt by the loss in government jobs.

"Government is going to continue shedding jobs and that's where you find a lot of people of color."

Some of the two-dozen companies with booths here include Starbucks, SMUD and Union Pacific Railroad. U.P. recruiter Sylvia Taylor is standing behind a table covered with brochures…and swag.

"We're giving away some goodies. We have an ink pen here and it has a flashlight."

Taylor knows what it's like to be on the other side of the table. She lost her job at AT&T because of downsizing and was hired by U.P. just five months ago.

"I'm very fortunate to have a job. Don't ever give up."
