Dan Boeckner and Alexei Perry (Handsome Furs) are my guests. Hear how Sound Kapital sizes up to their previous records, their adventures touring Asia and Dan's picks for this week's playlist.
Also the OA interview with Appetite aka Teddy Briggs!
Between Dan Boeckner's deep baritone-laced travel stories and
Alexei Perry's accounts of grateful audiences from The Forbidden
City to Myanmar - this show is a doozy.
You're in for well over an hour of Dan's favorite tracks, the
'Furs' tips for creative couples and what it means to put on a show
in China (you may want to think twice before dealing with Baltimore
concert promoters in Ho Chi Minh City).
Afterward the two of them gave the Townhouse Lounge one
memorable performance. How many other bands have played that
space performing effortless synthesizer solos, arms outstretched,
on one leg?
In short: I dare you not to be charmed by Handsome
You can find the band's "Indie Asia" series of tour diaries
from CNN right here and more photos of their
interview and Townhouse Lounge performance here.
INTERVIEW: Teddy Briggs / Appetite
Appetite's record release show for
Scattered, Smothered, Covered is Friday,
September 9th at Bows & Arrows Vintage in Midtown Sac. I spoke
with Teddy Briggs this week about the album, producer Raleigh
Moncrief and how Appetite has evolved from a part time project to
potentially full time gig.
