Right now, there's not much room for walkers, bicyclists and drivers to comfortably share the road along Fair Oaks Boulevard.
County staffers say the stretch between Marconi Avenue and Carmichael Park has become auto-oriented and outdated. That would change under a plan the County Board of Supervisors will be considering tomorrow.
Tricia Stevens with the county says it's called the Fair Oaks Boulevard Corridor Plan.
"The goal of that plan is to transform that section of Fair Oaks Boulevard in the Carmichael community into a vibrant, walkable, revitalized Main Street. And what's before the board is a series of actions that are taken as a whole in order to accomplish that objective."
Such as zoning changes that would allow for what's known as "mixed-use"…which means both residential and retail development…along Fair Oaks.
If the plan moves forward the county would then pursue grant money to pay for the project. Construction could possibly start within the next three-years.
