The "Any Given Child" program was created by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.  71% of Sacramento schools surveyed two years ago had no arts education programs.  Last year, teachers and artists brought the arts to 37,000 students in 89 local elementary schools.    Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson says it's a great start.

JOHNSON: "Be in more schools and bring more artists in and we're gonna bring in more workshops and more professional development for our teachers, so more kids have an opportunity for arts in Sacramento."

The mayor says his goal is to increase the number of students in the program by 20% each year.  Twin Rivers and Sacramento Unified School Districts are participating now. The Sacramento program is largely funded by local non-profits.  Portland, Oregon, Austin, Texas and Las Vegas, Nevada now also have programs.
