It's called the Solano and Yolo Counties Joint Economic Summit.
"We're looking at knitting together two of the strongest agricultural counties in California."
Don Saylor is a Yolo County Supervisor. He says the two counties want to develop a Food Chain cluster network…connecting growers with local packing and processing facilities. Right now, Saylor says, that doesn't exit.
"We're shipping about 98% of our agricultural products elsewhere for processing and then bringing it back for purchase in the local outlets in our area."
Saylor says another challenge is the ability to quickly ship farm products. He says government money for roads is typically based on population. So rural areas often get left out when it comes to new road construction.
The summit will be held Wednesday at UC Davis.
