Board Chair Roberta McGlashan says no business that violates state or federal law will be allowed to operate in the county.

MCGLASHAN:"Sorting out the conflicts between state and federal law on this subject and court cases, is not something we could untangle in the board of supervisors' chambers."

Earlier this year, the board directed staff to develop regulations and licensing procedures for dispensaries.  But, statewide action by the U.S. Attorney's office against dispensaries and traffickers led the supervisors to  re-think their positions.

The Sacramento City Council recently put a hold on permitting new dispensaries, but not before 34 businesses had completed the permitting process.  The city does not know how many of those businesses have continued to operate.
