Each year about 50,000 people ring in the New Year at the Stateline casino strip on the Nevada-California line.
"Traffic has been coming into town pretty steadily for almost a week now."
Jessica Cunningham is with the Tahoe Chamber. She says crowds will be larger this year because New Year's Eve follows the SnowGlobe music festival.
"I've heard anywhere from 80,000 to 100,000 people this year. New Year's is always one of our biggest draws for tourism. But this year particularly with the festival, I know they sold-out within hours."
Police say they want people to have a good time, but warn that rowdy, illegal or dangerous behavior will not be tolerated.
Authorities say Highway 50 through the casino district may be shut down to accommodate masses of pedestrians Saturday night, with traffic diverted to Lake Parkway Drive.
