Beginning today you can check-out a power use monitor for your home appliances at the library…
"Today is Benjamin Franklin's birthday so it seemed like a good day to launch."
Sacramento Municipal Utility District's John Grindrod says the device is easy to use. You plug it into an electrical outlet, and then plug your refrigerator, computer or other appliance into the monitor.
The monitor calculates cost and forecast costs by the week, month or year. The device is called a Kill A Watt EZ power monitor.
"They can be purchased of course. But we thought that by giving them to the library and allowing the library to loan them to the public as they would books was a good way to reach a broad cross-section of people."
You'll need a library card to check out a monitor. SMUD has donated more than 50 monitors to the library.
