State of the City: Johnson Talks Arena, but Not Strong Mayor

The mayor laid out goals for the coming year in three broad areas.  First: a new Kings arena.

Johnson: "If there was ever something that we thought was impossible, it's the new Entertainment and Sports Complex.  We've had tons of failed attempts over the last decade.  But I want you folks to know: We are this close to making it happen."

Second: Attract more "green" jobs to diversify the region's economy.  And third: Johnson continued his focus on education, although the mayor has no direct authority over school districts.  He's working on a "report card" with an A-through-F letter grade for each public school.

Johnson spent only one sentence of his speech on his "strong mayor" initiative.  But afterwards, he told reporters he'll spend the next week lobbying city council members who are reluctant to place that measure on the ballot.
