Multiple Tax Measures A Possibility In November

Governor Jerry Brown is behind one of them and has raised concerns that a ballot crowded with tax measures could create confusion for voters.  Some say Brown is right to be concerned.

Supporters of two tax initiatives have in recent days pumped hundreds of thousands of dollars into efforts to get to the November ballot…  Governor Jerry Brown has also been raising money for his measure that would increase the tax on sales and higher incomes.

Government Professor Jack Pitney at Claremont McKenna College says multiple measures give opponents opportunity to create confusion by talking about all the measures at once.

"It gives a{n} area of vulnerability to the proposal the Governor just doesn't need. It's going to be difficult as it is. But with the possibility of crossfire, the challenge becomes even greater…"

That's not hurting the Governor's efforts to build a coalition.  He's received numerous six-figure contributions from Indian tribes, an oil company and medical groups.
