Jack Robinson is editor of The Sacramento Business Journal. He points out - this latest deal comes about four-years after SureWest acquired a Kansas City company.
"This is like that cartoon of one fish swallowing another and then another bigger fish comes along to swallow it. Consolidated, just like SureWest, started as a local phone company and they are not much bigger than SureWest is. They're more profitable but not a lot bigger."
SureWest has about 600 workers in the Roseville area. Most of those employees work with customers and are likely to keep their jobs…especially since Consolidated doesn't have any operations in California. However, it's not clear what will happen to corporate executives based in Roseville.
Consolidated has operations in Illinois, Texas and Pennsylvania.
