LaHood says the Federal Government is behind High Speed Rail all the way, even with the project now expected to cost an extra $55 billion above the original cost estimate.

LAHOOD:  "We're committed, with the leadership of Governor Brown, to begin the process of high-speed rail in the Central Valley, in Fresno."

LaHood is scheduled to meet with Brown Thursday.  LaHood will also tour the Railyards mass transit project with Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson.

Wednesday, LaHood toured the Siemens plant in South Sacramento where the company builds light rail cars.  Lahood held up the German-based company as an example of how American companies can manufacture in the mass transit sector and provide good jobs in the process.  Siemens has survived the recession largely unscathed thanks to continued government purchases of its products.
