The statewide average price for a gallon of unleaded gas is three-dollars and eighty-five cents.   That's forty-cents higher than it was this time last year.  Matt Skryja with Triple-A says prices have been affected by global economic developments- and by the actions of oil refiners' in the U-S and Europe.

"There's been some concern about decreased demand not only here in the U-S but also on a global scale and because of that, refiners have, some of them, have cut back on their output…"

Skryja says California's average price is the third highest in the nation, behind Hawaii and Alaska.

Triple-A reports the average price for a gallon of gas in the Sacramento area is $3.78.  In the Los Angeles area, it's $3.89; It's $3.88 in the San Diego area, in Chico it's $3.75.
