Councilwoman Sandy Sheedy says she is withholding judgment until she gets more information. She is also pushing for a public vote on the project.
SHEEDY: "Everybody says they would vote no. I don't really think so. I think if they see the numbers, if they see the facts, if they see what will happen to the parking structures. If they see what kind of businesses will come here. If you explain to them. Right now, nothing has been explained. Nothing."
Mayor Kevin Johnson says he's confident the public will support the project once the details are finalized.
JOHNSON: " I think if we could answer some of those questions between now and February 28th, maybe there will even be a couple more that that are in favor. But, that's what this period is for. It's to ask the tough questions. I think those that are questions that warrant a response."
The 11 companies that were asked to submit proposals will have until February 28th to do so. The city will then present a financing plan to the National Basketball Association and the Sacramento Kings on March 1st.
