In a meeting with reporters, Senate President Pro-Tem Darrell Steinberg said he believes Governor Brown's initiative to temporarily raise taxes on sales and high incomes would provide more help for the state's General Fund.  Steinberg spoke about the Governor's measure and two other tax proposals working toward the November ballot.  Steinberg says the Governor's measure deserves to stand alone.

"All things being equal or close, I think the guy  elected by the people of California oughta get a little deference.  That's how I feel about it."

In regard to clearing the field for Brown's initiative, Steinberg says there are "conversations happening" with supporters of the other measures.
