Schenirer is asking poor people who want to be healthier to go on the WayUp Facebook page and apply to be considered for a garden.

SCHENIRER:  "What we want to find are people, individuals and groups of individuals who are committed to this so if we provide funding and technical assistance through a neighborhood or community-based organization the garden is going to be sustainable. That is what is most important to us."

Schenirer says donations from Western Health Advantage and Walmart are making the gardens possible.

His WayUp Sacramento program has the goal of reviving poor neighborhoods by improving education and healthy habits among people who live there.
