Crowd: "Pay us back! Pay us back!"
A sea of humanity packed the West Steps after marching a mile
to the Capitol. Among the speakers: Brandon Batham, a student
trustee on the Los Angeles Community College District board.
Batham: "We march today because it's time we hold our leaders accountable. It's about time that California invested in us once again!"
Assembly Speaker John Pérez and Senate President Darrell
Steinberg addressed the crowd too - but at times found their words
drowned out by chants of "Show us!"
Crowd: "Show us! Show
us!"
To which Steinberg replied: "We have to show you - you're
right."
