If you were planning to run this year for Mayor of Sacramento or for the City Council in District Six or Eight, bad news: the deadline has passed. But, the filing period remains open for two other City Council seats: Two and Four.
The City Clerk's office says we won't know until next week who has qualified for the Mayor's race or the District Six and Eight council races. The county registrar has to verify signatures.
Assistant City Clerk, Stephanie Mizuno says six people filed paperwork to be the next mayor. Two each have filed for the council seats.
MIZUNO: "Over the last few years, if you go back and look at the elections history there has really been no races. Most of our incumbents have run unopposed. In 2008, we had a much busier race. And this year, we definitely have a much busier race."
Fourteen people have picked up papers for the District Two and Four races.
Under state law, the lack of incumbents means more time for candidates to register and file paperwork. That deadline is next Thursday.
