Forecasters say the system will bring showers to the valleys and heavy snow to the mountains.
"This will be one of the wetter periods we've had this winter."
Bill Rasch is with the National Weather Service in Sacramento. He says the system will come in two-parts.
"The first one's coming in early this week and will go through, starting tomorrow through Wednesday, and you could see around an inch, maybe up to two-inches in the Sacramento area. And then there's even another stronger one coming in later in the week which we're still keeping a look at."
So far this winter, Sacramento has a total of around six-inches of rain which is about half-of-average.
The storm will bring strong winds to the Sacramento area tomorrow with gusts as high as 45-miles-per-hour. That may cause branches and trees to fall and it could create driving hazards.
