Forward Incorporated has also agreed to pay a civil penalty of $200,000 although the company does not admit to liability.
Federal prosecutors say Forward violated air pollution laws by operating gas extraction wells that caused a number of fires.
Sylvia Quast is with the U-S Attorney's Office for the Eastern District in Sacramento…which announced the settlement today.
"Forward is going to go and fix up its landfill gas collection system and get it into shape so that it can avoid having problems with fires in the future. It's also going to be going out and replacing 19 vehicles over the course of the next year and a half."
Quast points out that this is not a final settlement…it's a "proposed consent decree."
That means there's a 30-day period in which people can comment on the settlement and voice any concerns.
