Physician's for Social Responsibility Essay
Contest 20th Century Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis
said "we can have democracy in this country or we can have great
wealth concentrated in the hand of a few, but we can't have both."
These words have been resonating with a number of Sacramento area
high school students over the past weeks as they prepared essays
for the 8th annual high school scholarship essay
contest. The students were asked to respond to Justice
Brandeis' statement on American democracy for a chance to win up to
$3,000 in scholarship funds ($15,000 in total prizes). The winner
of the contest, Dylan Fitzwater, and one of the judges, Former
Supreme Court Justice Cruz Reynoso, join us for a discussion on the
contest and the importance of considering alternative points of
view. The annual contest is sponsored by the Sacramento Chapter of
Physicians for Social Responsibility.
